CBS News Triathlon Teams Raise £15k for RPT!
Staff from the London bureau swim, run and cycle in memory of fallen colleagues Paul Douglas and James Brolan.
On Saturday 22nd July ten relay teams competed in the London Triathlon, swimming 750 metres, running five kilometres and cycling 20 kilometres in memory of their two colleagues - staff cameraman Paul Douglas and freelance soundman James Brolan - who were killed in Iraq eleven years ago.
Individual donors and sponsors LiveU and Hiscox have so far helped them raise £15,000 for our work.
"Thank you to everyone who supported and sponsored the London bureau in Saturday’s London team triathlon," said CBS London Bureau Chief and RPT Trustee Andy Clarke, who kicked off his team's race with a swim. "The magnificent effort both online and offline helped us exceed our target in aid the Trust's work with freelancers and their families. Of course the day was not about winning but about commitment - commitment to remembering Paul and James who were killed while on assignment in Baghdad on a sunny memorial day morning in 2006. We renewed our commitment to never forget."
Thanking the CBS News teams, RPT Director Tina Carr said, "The unwavering support that Andy and his team have shown to honouring Paul and James' memory remains as strong as ever. That they can do so whilst also supporting our work and the lives of freelance journalists and their families all over the world makes their efforts that bit more special. A big thank you to every one who competed and donated."
